Die Kunst des Wartens

A filmmaker and social worker accompanies two families, single parents from Southeastern Europe, as well as their children, as they attempt to navigate the Kafkaesque structures of the German social welfare system. The focus is on the invisible mechanisms of exclusion within this system and their impact on the lives of individuals. The protagonists are forced into a state of waiting by bureaucratic detours and structural impossibilities. In this context, waiting means, on the one hand, losing part of one's self-determination to powerful structures of a state apparatus. On the other hand, the state of waiting refers to what is to come and is closely linked to the hope for a better future.

Bio/Filmo

Born in socialist Yugoslavia in 1979, shaped by a period of extreme political transformation, and living in Germany since 2010, Ljupcho Temelkovski examines social structures and class relations. Trained as a photographer and media artist, he works as a filmmaker and partly as a social worker. His artistic practice is grounded in careful observation and the exploration of often invisible structures of power within society—both institutional and interpersonal. Working across photography, installation-based video, and narrative film, he moves fluidly between documentary observation and artistic interpretation. His works have been widely presented at international art and film festivals and institutions, including Cinéma du Réel, Arsenal – Institut für Film und Videokunst, Centre Pompidou, Ake Dikhea, Festival of Romani Film, Volksbühne Berlin, European Media Art Festival, Club Transmediale, Ars Electronica, Skopje Film Festival, Manaki Brothers Film Festival etc.
